Roundtable “New times and challenges of media education. Russian and Armenian experience”, July 2, 2012
Within the frames of ARM project a roundtable “New times and challenges of media education” was organized in Golden Tulip Hotel, Verdi Hall for the lecturers, trainers and teachers of Journalism faculty of different Universities of Armenia. The special guests of the event were Anna Kachkayeva (Dean of the Faculty of media communications) and Mikhail Berger (Professor of the Department of Media Production and Creative Industries) from Higher School of Economics, Russia. They also conducted another full-day seminar for Armenian media managers in Aghveran on July1st.
“Article 27” the right of freedom of expression (Yerkir Media TV) and “E-Club” (A1+)
The last 13th “Article 27” the Right of Freedom of Expression was aired on June 6, 2012 (produced by Eurasia Partnership Foundation and Yerkir Media TV).The program was dedicated to the quality and the accuracy of the media coverage of social movements in Armenia and Turkey.
All the 13 talk shows went under three main themes- Armenia-Turkey relations, Armenia-Azerbaijan relation and Eastern partnership issues. The philosophy of the series was to discuss complex issues through civilized discussion with intelligent participants, presenting to the viewers related video materials and the mainstream vis-a-vis alternative discourse.
On June 26 the season’s last program of “E-Club” weekly cycle went on the online broadcast of “A1+” TV company. The “E-Club” was produced by Yerevan Press Club in cooperation with “A1+” TV under “Alternative Resources in Media” project, supported by USAID.
A1+ created a special section on its YouTube channel where all “E-Club” episodes are uploaded, making it easier for users to access the program.
This last program was devoted to the European Football Championship, being held in Poland and Ukraine. Particularly,
“E-Club” presented popular Armenian football websites, including http://www.armfootball.am, Euro-2012 photo galleries, online sports betting. The news bloc told about the Google initiative to join forces with linguists for saving endangered languages, about the Armenian translation of the mobile version of “Odnoklassniki” social network. The ratings of online sources and headlines of last week were presented by Artur Nazarian, Managing Editor of armsport.am. The web sources’ top list was headed by armsport.am, while the most popular topic was the appointment of Hrachya Rostomian as RA Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs.
Various segments of “E-Club” included opportunities offered by online technologies, usage tips, news on developments in the ICT sector, potential security risks for users; featured sites and blogs of the week, as well as the Web highlights of the last week presented by a guest expert.
Each program was distributed to regional stations for rebroadcast through the Hamaspyur network with at least 50,000 potential viewers to reach regional audiences. In addition, the A1+ online broadcast has around 15,000 potential viewers.
Michael Villiers-Stuart’s Master class on “The principles of TV branding and promotion” is on Media.am
Mr. Michael Villiers-Stuart, International Broadcast Marketing Consultant & Trainer at Message Multimedia Ltd, visited Armenia for two days in the frames of Alternative Resources of Media to participate in BarCamp Yerevan 2012 event and conduct a Master class on TV branding. The Master class “Motion Branding Principles and Case Studies” took place in Internews Multimedia Initiative Center on June 9 at 14.00 and was organized for Armenian PR, marketing and branding media specialists. Mr. Stuart represented the participants his experience in BBC, ITV, Al Jazeera English, Antena and Sudan and the success stories. The event was covered by local media.
Pascal Zemp’s Presentation on “International trends in newsroom convergence strategies” is now available on Media.am
Pascal Zemp, Associate Senior Consultant for the Institute for Media Strategies conducted a big presentation (open lecture) on “International trends in newsroom convergence strategies” for 20 invited editors and managers of Armenian print and online media on June 2 (Congress Hotel, Picasso Hall). He spoke about the International situation of newspaper publishing (audience and circulation trends, trends in audience media consumptions, newsroom strategies in a multimedia environment (Newsroom 1.0 to 3.0), lessons learned and critical success factors etc.
The lecture was followed by a very interesting Q&A discussion. Among the 40 participants of the event were representatives of mass media, NGOs, Universities, international organizations etc.
The Swedish expert was in Armenia from May 28 to June 3, 2012. The purpose of his visit was to conduct trainings on Business Model Development assistance for two popular Armenian media outlets (Aravot Daily and Hetq Online). He conducted 3 day long trainings on convergent newsroom management in each organization, met with the executives of the newsrooms (newspapers), editors in chief, deputy editors, section heads (news, economics, sport, features etc.), picture desks, head of online, head of IT of both organizations.
